Education Centre, Veliko Tǔrnovo
ZOV UK's education centre is based at the Penyo & Maria Children's Home in Veliko Tǔrnovo, Central Bulgaria. It provides tuition in IT, English and Dance to children in institutions whose education would otherwise lack adequate teaching in these subjects, hampering their chances of success in later life.
After a pilot project, the centre is now up and running and employs three members of staff. We hope to continue to improve the centre's facilities and build on its successes in the future.
Bogdanovo Boarding School
ZOV UK are now working on a number of projects with Bogdanovo Boarding School near Nova Zagora, helping equip the school to better look after and educate the children living there. Read more about the projects here.
VOICES - a radio project
Our latest project, collaborating with local radio station Radio Focus, builds on the work of the education centre, offering children at the centre a chance to integrate with the community, and to learn about the media. Read more about the project here.
Penyo & Maria's Children's Choir
ZOV UK completed a children's choir project this summer, working with the Penyo & Maria orphanage in Veliko Tǔrnovo. This project aimed not only to teach musical skills, but to contribute to the welfare of the children at the same time. To read more about this exciting project, click here. ZOV UK Minibus
ZOV UK, together with M4 Van Centre and OUSU drove a minibus out to Bulgaria to provide much-needed transport for orphanages in the Veliko Tǔrnovo area. We also took the opportunity to deliver aid materials for Medven orphanage, using the minibus. Read more about the project here.
Winter in Bogdanovo
Bogdanovo boarding school, in a rural area near Nova Zagora in central Bulgaria, desperately needed new beds and blankets to keep the children living there warm in the winter of 2006/07, in temperatures well below freezing; ZOV UK provided them. Read more about the project here.
